Having sore feet is common with the foot condition that is known as rheumatoid arthritis. It can happen to any joint in the body, and walking can become difficult when it affects the feet. It is considered to be a disease, and it causes the membranes and joints to become swollen and inflamed. Research has shown that approximately 90 percent of people with this condition have foot pain, and the symptoms can include tenderness, stiffness, and the joints may feel warm when touched. If the ankle joints are affected, early detection can consist of having difficulty in walking up or down steps, or inclines, such as hills or ramps. Mild relief may be found when stretches are performed that can help to increase flexibility. Practicing a gentle yoga routine may help to achieve this goal. If you have rheumatoid arthritis, it is suggested that you contact a podiatrist who can monitor your feet and offer you additional relief options.

Because RA affects more than just your joints, including the joints in your feet and ankles, it is important to seek early diagnosis from your podiatrist if you feel like the pain in your feet might be caused by RA. For more information, contact Bradley Olson, DPM of North Dakota. Our doctor will assist you with all of your podiatric concerns.

What Is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s own immune system attacks the membranes surrounding the joints. Inflammation of the lining and eventually the destruction of the joint’s cartilage and bone occur, causing severe pain and immobility.

Rheumatoid Arthritis of the Feet

Although RA usually attacks multiple bones and joints throughout the entire body, almost 90 percent of cases result in pain in the foot or ankle area.

Symptoms

  • Swelling and pain in the feet
  • Stiffness in the feet
  • Pain on the ball or sole of feet
  • Joint shift and deformation

Diagnosis

Quick diagnosis of RA in the feet is important so that the podiatrist can treat the area effectively. Your doctor will ask you about your medical history, occupation, and lifestyle to determine the origin of the condition. Rheumatoid Factor tests help to determine if someone is affected by the disease.

Shockwave Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis

Many people seek help for pain from plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the band of tissue that runs beneath the foot from the toes to the heel. Some simple remedies for plantar fasciitis include rest, exercise, and medication. It has also been found that shockwave therapy can be effective in reducing pain and helping to heal the plantar fascia. This non-invasive treatment consists of applying penetrating waves of ultrasound energy into the inflamed area. The body responds by creating new blood vessels and stimulates nerve endings that can help to heal the area. While the treatment occurs without any surgery, it can be painful. Sometimes multiple treatments are required, depending on the severity of the plantar fasciitis. Results of shockwave therapy may vary, but most commonly the pain of plantar fasciitis subsides. Fortunately, there are many ways to treat symptoms of plantar fasciitis. Please consult a podiatrist for more information on the treatment options that are best for you.

Shockwave therapy is a treatment commonly used to treat various injuries and conditions, particularly plantar fasciitis in the feet. To learn more, consult with Bradley Olson, DPM from North Dakota. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a new treatment option designed to treat bone conditions such as tennis elbow, shoulder pain, and others. Shockwave therapy uses high intensity sound waves that are directed to the affected tissues of the body with pinpoint accuracy. The effects are very beneficial, leading to a production of collagen fibers, eliminating inflammation.

Who Benefits from Shockwave?

Shockwave is recommended for patients suffering from heel pain and associated problems. Heel pain is a common condition which can be caused by obesity, overexertion, and spending a substantial amount of time on hard floors with your feet exposed and unsupported.

Fast and Easy

The therapy is actually a simple process that can leave patients feeling better the very next day. Shockwave therapy is not as dramatic as it sounds. It enables more blood flow to effected areas, addressing the source of the problem and allowing treatment to last for a long time.

Treatment & Recovery Time

Shockwave treatment will enable your feet to recover quickly. This is especially important since surgery is not required. It is cost effective and does not require the use of anesthesia. This treatment is a better option to surgery, since it is proven safe.

Eczema May Cause Blisters on the Feet

Blisters can develop on the feet from a condition that is known as dyshidrotic eczema. It may be caused by genetic tendencies and can be prevalent in people who have other forms of eczema. There may also be outside factors that can cause this condition. These can consist of stress situations, having an allergic reaction to specific kinds of metals, or certain types of irritants. This ailment may cause blisters to form on the feet, and may be preceded by severe itching and burning. The skin may turn red and become cracked after the blisters have healed, and can become infected. This condition can be treated by washing and drying the affected area, followed by moisturizing the feet. It is beneficial to keep the fingernails as short as possible, which may help to prevent breaking the skin from scratching. It is advised to manage stress levels as best as possible, which may be a key factor in preventing this type of eczema. If you have developed blisters on your feet, please consult a podiatrist as quickly as possible who can determine the cause, and treat it accordingly.

Blisters are prone to making everyday activities extremely uncomfortable. If your feet are hurting, contact Bradley Olson, DPM of North Dakota. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

Foot Blisters

Foot blisters develop as a result of constantly wearing tight or ill-fitting footwear. This happens due to the constant rubbing from the shoe, which can often lead to pain.

What Are Foot Blisters?

A foot blister is a small fluid-filled pocket that forms on the upper-most layer of the skin. Blisters are filled with clear fluid and can lead to blood drainage or pus if the area becomes infected.

How Do Blisters Form?

Blisters on the feet are often the result of constant friction of skin and material, usually by shoe rubbing. Walking in sandals, boots, or shoes that don’t fit properly for long periods of time can result in a blister. Having consistent foot moisture and humidity can easily lead to blister formation.

Prevention & Treatment

It is important to properly care for the affected area in order to prevent infection and ease the pain. Do not lance the blister and use a Band-Aid to provide pain relief. Also, be sure to keep your feet dry and wear proper fitting shoes. If you see blood or pus in a blister, seek assistance from a podiatrist.
